Transferring from Ubud to Seminyak!
Was sad to leave Ubud (especially our very nice villa), at the sametime couldn't wait to get to the beach!
It has been a year since i've been to one.. the sound of waves, salty air breeze in your hair, and sand beneath your feet. I could live with this forever and do nothing but sunbathe and feast my eyes on six packs.
But.... i didn't really get what i expected.. not as much, anyways.. (both the beach and six packs)
After an hours ++ drive from Ubud to our other villa in Seminyak, the first thing we did after unpacking was to find out where the beach, massage and food places were. I was looking to do a bit of shopping too. It turned out to be more than 15 minutes of walk to the beach. which is kind of a pain..
After walking around the main Seminyak area, the impression i get from this place was not as 'intimate' as Ubud - yes i think Ubud has spoilt us silly. We've been told to avoid Kuta and Nusa Dua as those places have been grossly commercialised, naturally we thought Seminyak would be different. Nevertheless, it was still a quiet place without the crazy disco sounds at night.
As for shopping, Seminyak is way more upmarket than Ubud is- and i thought Ubud was expensive! This is probably due to the thriving tourism especially travellers from Europe and Australia. Even shopping boutiques were owned by foreigners (mostly aussies) and you can see italian / french / moroccan restaurants all over the place. New hotels were being built everywhere. I told Mr C we better come here more often before it got too commercialised.

easiest pose i could think of.. too lazy laa |
Ended the day with a massage at Bodyworks and homecooked dinner by Mr C - instant Indomee goreng - which was quite nice.
Day 6
Having had enough of walking, we rented a motorbike from the hotel for RP50,000 a day and filled up the tank with RP10,000, that's RM17 for the bike and RM3 of petrol. I remember clearly because there is FINALLY something cheap in Bali!
It was Mr C's first time riding a bike and traffic in Bali was hectic, so it was quite hairy...
We wanted to visit the Rock in Jimbaran Bay (which was breathtakingly beautiful), and had to drive along Kuta and Nusa Dua.which was jammed with cars and illegal parking everywhere on small roads. Despite inhaling all the car fumes, i was pretty glad we were on a bike.
Stopped to ask for directions and this young fella stopped his bike in the middle of the road to help us. As traffic piled up he pointed to a spot with more space. We were pretty sure he was gonna ask for money, because who would offer to stop in the middle of the road, ask for our name, where we're from, where we've explored, drive back to where he was coming from just to read and point our map to us, without asking for anything back in return - Balinese people. In the end he gave us a 'brother' handshake and took off. Mr C was checking his pockets to see whether his wallet was still there.
So yea, i <3 Balinese people once again.
After 3 hours, we finally reached the Rock!

Mr C went apeshit when he saw the place. I was a camera widow for a whole hour before he could finally sit down and drink his corona. before going at it again..

(Mr C guessed correctly omg super lame i tell you)
Joke 2
Me: So do the women climb coconut trees here? (was in the middle of a gender role discussion la)
Tour guide: No they are not strong enough. They can only climb onto the body of the men.
(Mr C was laughing like a mad man)
Meet our driver Edi, who was the lamest of them all
Day 8
As this would be our last full day in Bali, we decided to stay in the villa for a good rest and massage.
In the end, we went out anyway because i needed the BEACH! Hopped on the bike:
finally a couple shot |
Long exposure shot |
crazy sky |
Day tour again! Bali is huge, hence having a tour guide is very useful. They bring you to places YOU want to go and are always eager to share information about the local life, the history and culture. They are also extremely capable of making lame jokes.
