Spring cleaning / Jap barbeque @ Taman Desa!

Finally picked my ass up for some purple room cleaning yesterday! Sorting out laundry/vacuum/groceries/ex-work stuff took most of the day and by 6pm, I still couldn't finish! was so tired i fell asleep.

I miss the days when purple room was easier to manage:
purple in the morning, pretty hor?
Nevertheless, felt pretty happy eventhough only half the room was done!

Went out for dinner with Mr C. Now that we're back in KL and Mr C is back to stress again, he is back to being Carnivorous.

Normally, i wouldn't be too keen on too much meat consumption especially late at night, but this place was *special* .

I mean, nothing beats fabulous food accompanied by smoking hot eye candy, in this case, not one, but TWO extremely hunky, buff, anime-cute, charming, delicious.... (u get my drift) japanese hunks! - which happen to be owners of the place. Did i mention they were hunks? OMG, Kuala Lumpur needs more of you, kindly procreate and multiply for the sake of the next generation please!!!

Time for some pictures!
Mr C enjoying his beer

Genghis Khan - Lamb stew

Meat galore
Both Mr C and I couldn't grill for nuts, hence we got...
'slim' ongchee to help save the day!!
(Blurry pictures taken in dark alleyway)

This bbq is a little shack tucked away in the dark alleys of Plaza Faber. We walked in to see the place packed with Japanese ojisans drinking and smoking away. All eyes turned to look at us, as though we were invading their secret hideout.

Another thing to note about this place is the choice of exotic stuff like Hatsu (chicken heart), tongue, baby intestines and etc to which mr C was only too happy to try.

By the end of the night, ongchee decided to throw me a little bedtime story from the horror movie "The Human Centipede" which haunted me for the rest of the night.

Ok , gonna do some reading of Murakami now.

Stumbled upon this song yesterday while spring cleaning.

An introduction to Bali - Post 2: Seminyak

Day 5
Transferring from Ubud to Seminyak!

Was sad to leave Ubud (especially our very nice villa), at the sametime couldn't wait to get to the beach!
It has been a year since i've been to one.. the sound of waves, salty air breeze in your hair, and sand beneath your feet. I could live with this forever and do nothing but sunbathe and feast my eyes on six packs.

But.... i didn't really get what i expected.. not as much, anyways.. (both the beach and six packs)

After an hours ++ drive from Ubud to our other villa in Seminyak, the first thing we did after unpacking was to find out where the beach, massage and food places were. I was looking to do a bit of shopping too. It turned out to be more than 15 minutes of walk to the beach. which is kind of a pain..

After walking around the main Seminyak area, the impression i get from this place was not as 'intimate' as Ubud - yes i think Ubud has spoilt us silly. We've been told to avoid Kuta and Nusa Dua as those places have been grossly commercialised, naturally we thought Seminyak would be different. Nevertheless, it was still a quiet place without the crazy disco sounds at night.

As for shopping, Seminyak is way more upmarket than Ubud is- and i thought Ubud was expensive! This is probably due to the thriving tourism especially travellers from Europe and Australia. Even shopping boutiques were owned by foreigners (mostly aussies) and you can see italian / french / moroccan restaurants all over the place. New hotels were being built everywhere. I told Mr C we better come here more often before it got too commercialised.

Beach pictures:

easiest pose i could think of.. too lazy laa
Was a bit cranky as we've been walking all day and only reached the beach by sunset.

Ended the day with a massage at Bodyworks and homecooked dinner by Mr C - instant Indomee goreng - which was quite nice.

Day 6
Having had enough of walking, we rented a motorbike from the hotel for RP50,000 a day and filled up the tank with RP10,000, that's RM17 for the bike and RM3 of petrol. I remember clearly because there is FINALLY something cheap in Bali!

It was Mr C's first time riding a bike and traffic in Bali was hectic, so it was quite hairy...

We wanted to visit the Rock in Jimbaran Bay (which was breathtakingly beautiful), and had to drive along Kuta and Nusa Dua.which was jammed with cars and illegal parking everywhere on small roads. Despite inhaling all the car fumes, i was pretty glad we were on a bike.

On the way to the Rock, we got lost.

Stopped to ask for directions and this young fella stopped his bike in the middle of the road to help us. As traffic piled up he pointed to a spot with more space. We were pretty sure he was gonna ask for money, because who would offer to stop in the middle of the road, ask for our name, where we're from, where we've explored, drive back to where he was coming from just to read and point our map to us, without asking for anything back in return - Balinese people. In the end he gave us a 'brother' handshake and took off. Mr C was checking his pockets to see whether his wallet was still there.

So yea, i <3 Balinese people once again.

After 3 hours, we finally reached the Rock!

Mr C went apeshit when he saw the place. I was a camera widow for a whole hour before he could finally sit down and drink his corona. before going at it again..

Day 7
Day tour again! Bali is huge, hence having a tour guide is very useful. They bring you to places YOU want to go and are always eager to share information about the local life, the history and culture. They are also extremely capable of making lame jokes.

Joke 1
What is the similarity between a monkey and a woman?
*
*
*
*
*
Ans: They both like to eat bananas ....
(Mr C guessed correctly omg super lame i tell you)

Joke 2
Me: So do the women climb coconut trees here? (was in the middle of a gender role discussion la)
Tour guide: No they are not strong enough. They can only climb onto the body of the men.

(Mr C was laughing like a mad man)

Meet our driver Edi, who was the lamest of them all

Sukawati art market
Tanah lot - i need a new hat
Padang-padang - one of the scenes from eat pray love
cak-cak-cak-cak-cak-cak-cak-cak-cak-cak-cak

Day 8
As this would be our last full day in Bali, we decided to stay in the villa for a good rest and massage.

In the end, we went out anyway because i needed the BEACH! Hopped on the bike:
Ojisan on bike
Did corny couple stuff

watched the sunset

Dinner @ Ku De Ta - hot waitresses and good drinks
The night ended with me being pissed at Mr C because he was checking out hot waitresses in the bar.
Pfft!

Day 9
Check-out.

Back to grumpy Malaysian taxi drivers and tall concrete buildings.

Bali we'll be back!!! soon!!!

An introduction to Bali - Post 1: Ubud

Day 1
It was our first time in Bali. We touched down mid noon-ish and were greeted by the hustle and bustle of tourists and tour agents at the airport. The weather was HOT. As we got out of the arrival hall, we spotted our hotel driver carrying the hotel signboard with a big smile on his face. His name was Nyoman and served us cold towels and water as soon as we got into the car. Day 1 and i'm already feeling good about this place.

The drive to our villa in Ubud took slightly longer than an hour due to the traffic on the road. Nyoman gave us a brief history of the culture of Bali and shared with us the meaning of his name - which is 3rd child. To those who've read eat, pray, love would already know by now how this works. In Bali, parents name their children according to sequence:

1st child: Wayan
2nd child: Made
3rd child: Nyoman
4th child: Ketut
As for the fifth child, it goes back to Wayan again. and the process repeats itself..

So Nyoman was asking us questions on how long we were here for, where we were going, where we're from, what we do back home and etc. He even showed us a picture of his family. Was a bit worried about this over-friendly driver of ours, but as we spent more days in Bali, you find out that everyone, even the hotel receptionist or shopkeepers ask you the same thing. They are just simply. friendly.

We reached our villa and again were greeted by big, friendly smiles. As i walked into the villa, i fell in love. Will let the pictures do the talkin:
Entrance to River villa

Outdoor living room
Bedroom

Outdoor bath tub
Mr C was saying: "oh dear, I really doubt i'll be able to top this for our honeymoon."
Me: "it's ok, we can come back here again!!!" while running around the villa like a nutcase.

Little did we know that the next villa made both of us speechless.

Day 2
Woke up 7am for the Rice Paddy walk! Of course, after being on several holidays with Mr C, i've gotten used to the idea of waking up early for walks ~~ the things you do for love..

As we were on our way out of the villa, Mr C was snapping pictures and very excitedly called me over...

C: "Baby, look at this!!!"
Me: "What what?"
C: "This place is so romantic it makes even the bugs fall in love!!!"

--____________--

So anyways - RICE PADDY WALK! lots of greeeeeeen scenery for your viewing pleasure...

C's friend says Hi
By 11am, we passed by a cute little shack right in the middle of the rice paddy, which serves delicious, healthy, organic meals.
Nasi campur and red rice wine
The view was, needless to say, superb and food so delicious that to my surprise, Mr C-arnivore gobbled up all the greens.

We got lost along the way and followed a different route back to Ubud main street, and was so glad to  spend the rest of the day back in the villa.

Day 3
Woke up at 8am for our day tour!
Holy spring water outside of Goa Gajah

The Balinese make loads of these beautiful offerings everyday!!

The day ended with Wayan, our tour guide who was so nice to drive us to his house to have a better feel of how a Balinese house looks like on the inside. He even introduced us to his parents, brothers, wife and kids. The kids were constantly showing off their dance moves to us.

Our nice guide Mr Wayan!

I <3 bali people!!!

Day 4
We moved to a different villa which, as mentioned before, left us speechless..
View outside from the bedroom

Needless to say, i jumped straight in

Ahh, the peace of Bali !!
